Book-lovers and readers of all ages are in for a treat on Saturday, September 10, 2016.
That’s when the inaugural Colorado Book Festival will be held at the Denver Public Library, downtown.
Gov. John Hickenlooper, himself a recently published author, will kick off the Festival with remarks in the seventh floor Gallery at 10:15 a.m. You can bet he’ll talk about his new book, The Opposite of Woe: My Life in Beer and Politics, and be ready to sign copies. They’ll be on sale following his talk.
Then comes the Colorado Book Festival itself, starting at 11 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. in the lower level Conference Center.
About 60 Colorado authors will be set up in half of the Conference Center ballroom, ready to meet and talk with readers about their books and writing in general. They’ll have copies of their books for sale, and will sign them for all who would like their copies autographed.
In the Conference Center reception area, 12 Colorado authors of Children’s and Young Adult books will host Story Time, featuring readings by each author throughout the day. The lineup includes Mariko Layton Tatsumoto, Virginia White, Pat Postek, Margi Evans, Cheryl Carpinello, Leslea Wahl, Linda LeBlanc, Lydia Gill, Linda Osmundson, Jodi Bowersox, Nancy Oswald and Mary Peace Finley.
And in the other half of the Conference Center ballroom, divided into two rooms, Festival-goers will have their choice of guest authors speaking individually – including Pulitzer Prize-winner Elizabeth Fenn, New York Times best-sellers Stephen Singular and Margaret Coel, former Denver Post columnist Dick Kreck, and landscape photographer and nature writer John Fielder – or panels on cookbooks, sports books, mysteries, books of poetry, history-based books and books about relationships.
Among many notable panelists are former Broncos vice president Jim Saccomano and two men who have achieved the title Colorado Poet Laureate, Joseph Hutchison and Davis Mason. (For the full Festival schedule, list of participating authors, and other information, go online to coloradoauthors.org.)
The Colorado Book Festival is a joint presentation of the Colorado Authors’ League, which is celebrating its 85th year in 2016, and the Denver Public Library’s Western History and Genealogy Department (located on the central library’s fifth floor).
The event is free and open to the public.
