[between 1930-1937?] Red Rocks, Denver Mountain Parks, Colorado
Red Rocks, Denver Mountain Parks, Colorado
During the 1970s and 1980s the summer concert series at Denver’s majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre was known as the Summer of the Stars. Of course Red Rocks never needed rock stars to rock your world. As a natural amphitheater, the beautiful park space has always been a sight to behold.
In this Harry Rhoades picture from sometime between 1910-1930, we get an idea of the park looked like before it was turned into the concert venue we know and love today. (Though we must mention that chamber orchestra concerts were held at the park between 1906-1910.) While there weren’t many benches to sit on, or parking lots to pre-game in, we’re fairly certain that a summer of stars could be enjoyed on any summer evening.
Of course whether you can see the stars or not; whether there are bleachers or not; you really won’t run into many bad summer evenings at Red Rocks.
