At first glance, this week’s photo appears to be a promotional photo from an ’80s TV detective series about a professional bowler who solves crimes with the help of an amateur production of Grease. That, however, is not entirely accurate.
The dashing man with the shirt, tie and bowling ball is former Denver District Attorney Norm Early. While Early certainly prosecuted plenty of criminals during his career, that work happened in a courtroom, not at Celebrity Sports Center (whose iconic logo is visible in the background).
Then there’s the case of the mysterious women clad in faux-1950s attire by his side and at his feet. The woman on the right bears a striking resemblance to Janet Elway, former wife of John Elway, despite the fact her jacket says, “Kristi.”
As for the remaining figures in the picture, your guess is as good as ours.
The fact is, sometimes pictures, and other items, emerge from our collection and we’re just not sure what they’re all about. In this case, we know that the picture came from a Rocky Mountain News photographer and is housed in that collection but, beyond that, we really don’t know much.
If you recognize any of these folks, or remember what the occasion was, let us know in the comments section or post your theories on our Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you.
