Manual High School is located in the historic Whittier neighborhood in Denver, Colorado. The school opened in 1892 and was one of the first schools to educate women and African Americans. Manual has a very diverse range of notable alumni including the first and second African American Mayors of Denver – Wellington Webb and Michael Hancock – and activist Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales. Dr. Daniel Black author of the acclaimed novel, Perfect Peace will be discussing his newest publication The Coming.
Daniel Black is a native of Kansas City, Kansas, yet spent the majority of his childhood years in Blackwell, Arkansas. He is an associate professor at his alma mater, Clark Atlanta University, where he now aims to provide an example to young Americans of the importance of self-knowledge and communal commitment. Celebrate Kwanzaa at DPL
Kwanzaa is a seven-day holiday that celebrates Family, Community and Culture. The word “Kwanzaa” comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” meaning “first fruits.” Each location will feature a guest performer and light refreshments.
